Alpha Reads
Beginners wanted!
Are you on your first or second draft? You know what you want your novel to be, how you want your characters to appear, what your world is built on, but you want someone to take a look at the over-all arcs of your novel to help point you in the right direction to create something beautiful? Then I’m the editor for you!
With an alpha read, I’ll be taking a look at your novel as whole and make suggestions in line with what you imagine your novel to be.
You will receive a report where I outline major features of your novel and provide feedback.
I’ll also be available for a follow up discussion once you’ve received your feedback.
Price: £0.002 per word.
Discount if you book a beta read or developmental edit in advance.
Beta Reads
You’ve gone through a few drafts, you’re happy with your world building, your characterisation, your major plot points, but you want a professional to go over it and make sure everything flows, the story works, your characters remain consistent and make decisions in line with their personalities, as well as the over structure of your novel.
You’re looking for someone who can help you shape your novel so it’s ready for either developmental editing or line editing, and you’re also looking for someone who appreciates all the hard work you’ve put in so far!
Beta reads are the next step up from an alpha read, and might be the push you need to lift your story and get it ready for the next level.
I’ll also be available for a follow up discussion once you’ve received your feedback.
Price: £0.001 per word.
Discount if you book a developmental edit in advance.
Developmental Editing
This is the real deal, the Big Daddy. You’ve completed your drafts, you’ve been through your beta edits, but you’re still looking for a full in-depth critique of your work
I’ll be taking a deep dive into your manuscript, not only looking at major character arcs, plot points, development and structure, but I’ll be analysing every scene to ese what your characters are doing and saying and how that contributes to the overall story. I’ll be making sure every one of chapters flows beautifully and fits the overall theme or mood you’re trying to create. I’ll be searching for any inconsistencies within your story such as timelines, character features, story arcs, as well as your story being logical and grounded. I will also be looking at word choice and how it contributes to the scene/character as well as anything else you’d like me to focus on.
I’ll also be available for a follow up discussion once you’ve received all your feedback.
Price: £0.005 per word.
Discount if you’ve used me for an alpha or beta read.
Discount for first time authors.
I also offer payments plans.

Why Choose Me
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Publishing.
I studied for three years at Oxford Brookes University, coming out with a Bachelor's Degree (2:1). After uni, I worked for Oxford University Press for a summer before I decided I wanted to take my life in a different direction.
In the course we specialised in the traditional book market, with a focus on book marketing, editing/proofreading, working with book agents, creating ebooks and magazines, the history of book publishing and its influence on culture. We also spent a semester looking at the rise of independent publishing. I worked as a marketing intern for Oxford University Press after university, designing newsletters, liaising with authors and running various social media accounts.
I’m an author.
I’ve already publishing novels, so I’m familiar with what kind of feedback you’re looking for. It’s helped put me in touch with the more personal side of publishing, and I’ll be able to offer advice based on first-hand experience of the trials and tribulations of writing and editing books.
I want to help you become a better author.
You deserve to be recognised for all your hard work, but maybe you need an extra hand getting that scene just right, or shaping your characters, or making sure your story flows. I want to help you write the best story you can, so you can publish your book totally satisfied and proud of your achievement. I’m happy to edit any genre of romance novel!
Interested?
Then send me a message with some information about your novel (blurb or short description), which service you’re interested in, and if there is anything specific you are looking for! I’ll get back to you via email and ask to look at the first chapter of your story. I’ll do a review and comment on it for free in a Google Doc, so you’ll be able to see the comments as I make them. We can look at how far along your novel is, if you like my style, and if we’ll work well together. My review of your sample with be an in depth developmental edit, so you can see what kind of feedback I offer.
If you’d like to work together, I’ll send you a contract, and ask for half the payment before I start, and the rest when the editing is complete.
Looking forward to working with you!
Testimonials
“Abigail did a beta read for me for an early draft of my first novel. She was immensely helpful in pointing out inconsistencies in my plot, setting, and characters. She provided useful recommendations on how to improve my manuscript by making sure I made and kept promises to the reader consistently throughout and followed through on them later in the book. Her feedback helped me figure out some of my more complicated plotlines and plotholes I even didn't know I had.
On the scene level she analyzed each scene to ensure they moved the plot forward, and recommended improvements on how to strengthen the scene structure and character arcs within each.
As I head into my next draft--I have a clear plan on how to move forward on improving and refining my story. I'll for sure use Abigail on future manuscripts. Her feedback was honest and helpful!”
